Mindful Movement and Meditation ensuring a Trauma Sensitive Approach
At Endurance, we are constantly learning and sharing this knowledge from our study of the mind-body connection. Over the past few decades, the exercise world has certainly changed. We have discovered better connections and understandings of the relationship between the mind and the body, the nervous system and the muscular system, the lymbic system and the endocrine system. We are not purely the hanging bones of the skeleton hanging at the front of the classroom, nor are we that little voice in our head. We are the product of all of our systems, internal connections, external relationships, the learnings from our past and the prospects of our future. When a student walks through the door of our studio, we take all of these variables into account when designing a workout. We take a moment to learn about you- your life, your family, just as much as you would like to share with us. We also never make assumptions- we respect our students and their personal situations. We will challenge you physically while respecting your boundaries and ensuring that we staying true to our calling as healers and givers.
Why is a trauma sensitive approach important to exercisers?
Above all else, we prioritize a client’s safety, ensuring that our environment is safe, in every aspect, from our equipment to the teachers that we employ, Joseph Pilates originally called his regimen Contrology. We want you to understand that you are in complete control. We will teach you how to use your mind to control your body- physically and mentally.
What are some things that I can expect in a trauma-sensitive fitness environment?
We will use an approach where we invite our students to take part in an exercise versus barking orders. We will always offer modifications and allow students the permission to take a break if necessary. We will offer challenges, encouragement, and awareness of your own strengths and abilities, meeting you where you are at, on that day, at that particular moment.
We structure our workouts around respect for you body and mind, ensuring that we choose exercises that feel right for your body. Endurance teachers will always ask before giving hands on corrections and will only use them when approved and with respect in order to help inform your body as to the proper movement patterning. We assist our students in learning to regain trust in their bodies, collaborating to establish best practices
